I’ve had the sort of week you want to forget quickly, you know – the kind you go ‘thank God it’s Friday’.
Last year, I made up my mind to rev things up a notch with my work and blogging. So I did some research and spoke to some really clever people (as one does) and I learnt a lot – the upshot from this was deciding to get on top of the IT side of my business which is proving so essentail for growth these days. To achieve this I needed to upgrade quite a few of the softwares I use to the latest versions available (which proved very excititng and was going so well) so much so in fact I decided to tackle my website (forgetting how easily things can go horribly wrong in IT).
The version of word press I was using was out of date and needed an upgrade to the latest version – the loops to jump for this to happen safely proved too difficult so I got my web hosting guys to do it for me, so far so good – next, NetRivet just released ProPhoto 4 the template software that runs my blog and the accompanying marketing video touted it as the bees knees and the next best thing to freshly toasted bread, so I wanted it – and got it, only for it to crash my site, this was on Tuesday gone and boy did that mess up my week or what.
A few emails went to and fro between me, NetRivet and my web hosting folks at Silk Stream to resolve the issue and finally yesterday night NetRivet contacted me to confirm the problem was resolved – apparently the file sizes of the images I load are the culprit – they are too large.
Why is this important – we live in a world where just having one type of skills set is not enough anymore, proficiency in a myriad of specialist skill fields has become a very significant advantage in attaining success.
But as weeks go, it wasn’t a BAD one really, I learnt the value of good customer care and was very grateful for it – it has now become one of my top priorities in improving my clients experience, something I want to ensure they get every time.
So in closing, I say a big thank you to the guys and girls at NetRivet and Silk Stream – YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
