Isaiah Portrait shoot – December 2011

So it’s been ages since I posted anything. I have wondered why it took me so long. I read other peoples blog near enough every day and finally I figured it out. I have been hidden away working at making changes to the way I work and what I do and why I do them. Being of a certain age makes one well aware of not just existing but having purpose for existing, in that vain I could not just go on posting randomly.

Over the next year I hope to better articulate in the images I post and subjects I address my purpose and reason for being. Here is a shoot I did two days ago of Isaiah – he is my youngest son, he has grown up so quickly that I almost feel that I missed it happen (this is the result of being a busy photographer/father and constantly under pressure to deliver work on time and not disappoint my clients). Looking back over the past few months and at this shoot I am revising my life. These were fun to do and I am having so much fun just hanging out with my boys, and I find myself doing that more and more and finding the time I spend with them unbelievably amazing good fun. These were shot in the studio reception, I am challenging myself by doing more and more shoots in really unexpected situations to see what is possible – enough said. See what you think.

Dorothy – Young & Beautiful – studio shoot – London

I did this shoot three days ago – it was one of the days I was ‘dying’ to do something creative but did not have a session booked and whilst I was standing in the studio reception being miserable Dorothy walked by.

Her mother owns the hair dressing salon next to my studio. They have been very helpful with ‘sorting’ out hair issues for clients on quite a few occasions. Dorothy’s bright yellow and black outfit got my attention and I dashed round and asked her to do this shoot. I hope you like it – she is a student and has no modelling experience, did not plan or prepare for this, was pretty much put on the spot but was willing to help me out . I learnt quite a lot from this shoot. See what you think anyway.

The Fishers (brother & Sister) – location and studio shoot – London

I photographed the Fishers a little while back – there dad booked the session as a Mothers day gift. I’ve had the idea to do this for a while and they were game for it so we did some shots in the studio then headed out to a park I use from time to time for wedding photos. Of all the days in the year for the park to close it was that day, my park was shut, this really threw me – it did not occur to me to check before leaving the studio.

We did the shots you see here out side the park entrance – in the car park in fact. A simple but great lesson learnt that day – looking at these images you probably would not have guessed – and as they say in theatre – the show must go on and did.

Grace Kathleen – studio baby shoot – London

I’ve had the pleasure of shooting some pregnancy and baby portraits recently and hope to feature them here over the next few days and weeks. My work keeps evolving as I exercise myself at improving my ability and develop my craft. My style of working has changed a bit as a result and I can see progress in the quality of images I produce and recognise that I am having more consistency producing images. The shoot featured here is that of a gorgeous Grace Kathleen – she was a joy to photograph. It took a while to get her to settle and getting a smile out of her was quite difficult not because she was grumpy or difficult, as experienced as I am at doing this – i just did not find what worked with her until quite late into the shoot. The fact is babies don’t, won’t or can’t always be smiling and don’t, can’t or won’t always do so because we expect them to or try to trick them into doing so, luckily I got one or two ‘smiles’ in the end but the images without a smile are just as cute too. See what you think.

Bibilari family – studio shoot – London.

I’ve photographed the Bibilari family (they are based in Nigeria) for the last three to four years – it all started with Yinka – head of the family, who was not at this shoot – unfortunately missing due to work commitments. Then with his wife, then later with their first child, the young girl seen here and late last year with their second child (the cute baby boy in these photos). I expect to photography them sometime before the end of the year – all being equal. I am particularly impressed with Mrs Bibilari as this shoot was done about a month after she had the baby – you would never have guessed. See what you think.
