Kelvin’s portrait shoot – The making of a POLITICIAN

There are not too many occasions when I get all excited about YOUTH –  but Kelvin Idialu is not your average youth. I’ve known Kelvin’s family for a very long time – his dad Chris and I were at secondary school together – Birch Freeman, in Suru-Lere Lagos – Nigeria. I photographed his parents wedding and have photographed the family on quite a few occasions including his mother Nike’s graduation a few years back with a first class degree.

Kelvin is running for election under The Green party banner – and I am very proud of him, at a time when a lot of young people are choosing to join gangs and use drugs, it is refreshing to see someone doing something very worthwhile and meaningful with their life. My second son Joshua ran for office a few years back for a school related post and won so I know it is not easy and the responsibility is good for improving character. I’ll never forget how wonderful it felt to hear my son at 11 years old discussing his meeting with the school head and parents about school life and what they could do to help improve their experience of school and schooling.

I am very confident of Kelvin’s ability – demonstrated ably by the fact that the whole process of arranging the photo shoot for his campaign was done all by himself. I only spoke with his parents because I did not have a contact number for him directly – though he had called me twice and sent two emails to follow up his efforts to tie me down as time was in very short supply.

Kelvin – I wish you all the best. Good luck.
